Communicating Effectively Through Interpreters (B106)


Description

This course is designed to provide attorneys with the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively with clients and others through the use of spoken language and sign language interpreters. The course will cover the legal protections, the ethical roles and responsibilities of an interpreter, techniques for working with interpreters, and strategies for effective communication through an interpreter.

Upon completion…

• Identify and utilize legal standards to protect clients’ language access rights

• Appreciate the value of working with credentialed vs. non-credentialed interpreters

• Explain the rules of professional conduct that apply to legal interpreters

• Implement practical strategies to better improve the quality of interpretation through spoken and sign language interpreters
